When we launched Inuti Interiors, we had a pretty clear idea of what the business would look like and the types of projects we were willing to take on, the clients we hoped to work with, and the direction we were heading. Already one year in and we are able to see the value of being a small business that can be flexible, take those quick turns and marvel at which strategies work or what don't. Someone recently said to me, as a small business you throw a lot of things at the wall to see what sticks and this resonated with me - although not in a haphazard way, we certainly explore different ways to market ourselves, and create new opportunities to see what works.

Contemporary living room interior with soft neutral tones, designed by Inuti Interiors in Clifton, Bristol. The space features a light curved sofa with mixed textured cushions, two beige armchairs, a sculptural black coffee table on a geometric patterned rug, and a white marble fireplace. Modern wall art and sculptural lighting fixtures add warmth and depth to the classic architectural detailing.

One of the biggest surprises in running a small business is how often unexpected opportunities come up, the kind you didn’t plan for. A project slightly outside your usual scope. A new sector that sparks your interest. A conversation that shifts your perspective. At first, these moments can feel like detours. But more often than not, they are where the real growth begins.

As a small, independent interior design studio, one of our biggest strengths is our ability to keep adapting. Without layers of approval or complex processes, we can respond quickly, shift focus, and try new approaches. That agility is one of the biggest advantages of being an SME.

We have found ourselves working on projects that weren’t part of the original plan, but still work within our ethos of simple design for beautiful living. These opportunities helping to shape who we are and expand the way we think about interior design.

Things shift constantly and so do clients needs, market demands, design trends. And being able to evolve with those changes, without losing sight of our values, is what keeps our business moving forward.

So if you’re building something small but ambitious, don’t be afraid to follow the unexpected paths. They may lead you somewhere even better than you imagined.
