When the Brief Grows – Why We Welcome 'Scope Creep' in Design

At Inuti Interiors the most integral part of what we do is understanding our clients and listening to their ideas and requirements. Sitting down with a client, talking through their needs, maybe a kitchen redesign or a full home renovation and starting with a clear brief is our focus. And while we still love to begin with that sense of clarity, we’ve learned something important: the most exciting design journeys don’t always run in a straight line.
More often than not, a residential interiors project starts with one goal and gradually grows into something more. It's called scope creep but to us, it usually means trust.
When a client asks, “Could you also look at the study while you’re here?” or mentions that they hadn’t thought about lighting but would love a full scheme, we see it as a really positive sign. It tells us that they believe in our vision. That they feel safe enough to open the door a little wider and let us create something more layered, more thoughtful and more them. We feel privileged to know we have their trust and faith in the process.
We never take that for granted.
As a small, independent interior design studio, we’re in a brilliant and fortunate position to be able to adapt to our client's requests when the brief changes, we can respond quickly, creatively and seamlessly.
Of course, when a project grows, there are practical things to revisit, timelines, budgets, and logistics but that’s all part of the process. What matters is that the final space reflects how our client really wants to live, not just what they thought they wanted at the start.
Designing luxury interiors isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about creating spaces that feel personal, intuitive and lived-in and sometimes that vision only truly reveals itself once the work begins.
So if your project starts to shift and move along the way, that’s okay. We’re here for it. Because at Inuti Interiors, bespoke design means just that it's a process of evolving with you, every step of the way.
